Higher Secondary Certificates are awarded to only the eligible candidates who secure 70 marks each in all the six subjects out of 200 in Higher Secondary Examination. At the end of 12th Standard, the date for the HSC is fixed by the Director of Government Examination. The exam is conducted thrice in a year (i) Higher Secondary examinations, March / April (ii) Higher Secondary Special Supplementary Examinations, June / July (iii) Higher Secondary Examinations, September / October 2018 schedule has now been published by the Director of Government Examinations. There are 3 parts. Part I (Language) in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Urdu, Sanskrit, Arabic, French and German. Part II – English and Part III – 4 subjects- Any four subjects from group of General stream papers or Vocational Stream Papers in which candidates have to appear depending on the subject they choose. The paper will be of 3 hours duration that will be available in English and Tamil. However, Permitted medium for Part III subjects are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Urdu & English.
As the table shows that the first exam is of Part – I Language Paper I that is to start from 01 March 2018 and it will take two months to end the exams. The last paper will be conducted on 06 April 2018 and it will be of Communicative english, Indian Culture, Computer Science, Bio chemistry, Advanced Language (Tamil). Eligibility
- a) Academic qualification- candidate must have passed 11th class or equivalent examination. In addition to that, candidate should have completed 2 years of study from a recognised Higher Secondary School.
- b) Age- candidates should be 16+ as on 31st July 2018.

Re-totalling
Candidates are allowed to apply for re-totalling as well if they find there is any totalling mistake in their papers or any answer has been left unmarked. The same has to be done within the dates prescribed by the Department after the publication of results. The marks secured by the candidate will be added once again and awarded. There is an extra charge for re-totalling.
