Last year, Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu released Class 11 result on May 30 on its official website. 91.3% of students qualified for the exam and were promoted to the next level i.e Class 12. The passing percentage of girls was 94.6% and the passing percentage of boys was 87.4%. The top three districts were Erode with 97.30%, Thirupur with 96.40% and Coimbatore with 96.20%.

The Directorate of Government Examinations was formed as a separate directorate in February 1975. The first secondary school leaving certificate exam was conducted in the year 1911. This directorate started conducting the following major exams from the year noted against each of them, in addition to the various examination. Prior to the formation of Directorate of Government Examinations, the DPI/DSE was the ex-officio commissioner for Government Exams and the department was having its office at Madras only.
